A strategy game that helps to understand climate change

Our desire

A strategy game that illustrates the effects of climate change on the oceans and the associated challenges. The player takes on the role of the mayor of Sunset City and, together with a team of researchers, will fight the mass proliferation of jellyfish and find solutions for the changing ecosystem.

This is how we implemented it

The game ‘Go Jelly’ was developed in a low-poly design to ensure smooth performance on different devices. In addition to the technical concept and programming, we were also responsible for the game storybook in this project. The graphics and videos were realised and animated using React with the support of eslint, typescript and prettier.

Our project result

The result is a game that shows the realistic effects of climate change on the oceans and sensitises players to the problem. The EU-funded ‘Go Jelly’ project sees jellyfish not as a problem, but as part of the solution and is working on methods to utilise them. In the game, players learn about the different ways they can be utilised and are encouraged to overcome their fears.

Janina from the development team on ‘Go Jelly’: ‘It was a lot of fun working on this project. I learnt a lot about jellyfish while I was working on it and the successful videos made my day-to-day work more relaxed.’
