Knoop_

Knoop (Low German for button) enables municipalities to control their street lighting as needed via app. This is a real benefit for municipalities, which in the end pays off in the truest sense of the word.

Our desire

Knoop combines areas of energy efficiency, measures to reduce light pollution, digitalisation, rural development and participation at local level.

In many municipalities, there is a debate about the switching times of street lighting - switch it off earlier or leave it on for longer? The arguments are many and varied. Continuous lighting is a cause of insect mortality, sleep disturbances in humans and disturbed day-night cycles in many animals.

Knoop is an innovative idea that contributes to savings for the municipal budget. Knoop has been well received and there are plans to shorten the general lighting period.
_Holger Jensen (54, Landwirt / Bürgermeister)

This is how we implemented it

Knoop enables municipalities to rely on demand-led control without major intervention in the existing infrastructure. As soon as our control unit is installed in a municipality, the street lighting can be switched on via the Knoop app.

The concept was developed and subsequently implemented together with municipal representatives and mayors. Since 2017, thousands of needs-based switching operations have taken place in various municipalities.

Knoop is the practical solution for dark nights when the lack of street lighting after midnight has been a real nuisance.
_Steffen Ketelsen (30, Beamter)

Our project result

It is not uncommon for street lighting in municipalities to be switched off at night. Citizens are happy to have demand-led control so that they no longer have to walk through the town in the dark and only switch on the lights when they are needed.

With Knoop, we won the Schleswig-Holstein Digitalisation Award in the ‘Digitalisation in rural areas’ category in 2019.
