Mobile app development for digital church discovery

A church is far more than just its tower. It holds stories, preserves cultural treasures, and offers a tangible experience of faith. naymspace turned that experience into a cross-platform mobile app: the "Nordkirchentour" app lets visitors explore churches in a modern, intuitive way, straight from their smartphones.

Built for the Nordkirche, the app helps tourists discover the most beautiful Protestant churches in Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Hamburg. Drawing on the Nordkirche's extensive database, it serves up images, videos, floor plans, and audio recordings. Every visit becomes an informative, customizable, and enriching discovery tour.

Inside the app development

The app connects to the Nordkirche's central database through a purpose-built interface, surfacing up-to-date opening hours of church facilities, detailed event calendars, and worship service times across the various congregations.

We paired the mobile app with a custom content management system so the Nordkirche team can maintain everything itself. The stack is Elm for the frontend and Elixir/Phoenix for the backend, an architecture that delivers high performance, stability, and maintainability while supporting an efficient editorial workflow.

Rather than building separately for each platform, we shipped a single Progressive Web App (PWA). It runs directly in the browser or installs on mobile devices, and it is available to download from the Apple and Google app stores. Users get a native app feel on iOS and Android, including offline functionality and quick access to key content.
